Still the most pleasing of Australian films. From Crete to the Australian suburbs, on a mission to settle a family score, a timid, mild-mannered schoolteacher ends up scoring laughs instead. And with his layabout twin brother, together they uncover the truth about the enduring feud. Within this framework there’s a sensitive story of a mother/daughter relationship and of a romance born between childhood sweethearts and rekindled years later. The opening sequences are beautifully photographed on Crete, before the film takes on a distinctly Australian appeal, which helped it to become a record-breaking success in Greece and the No. 1 box office champion of all-time. Legendary Greek TV comedian, Lakis Lazopoulos, plays the twin brothers, with Zoe Carides and John Bluthal heading the Australian cast. The film is a winner with audiences. Mikis Theodorakis (remember ZORBA?) provides the infectious musical rhythms which will have you stepping lightly as you leave the cinema. “A charmer that delights on all fronts… a journey that is rich with emotion and wildly funny.” – Louise Keller, URBANCINEFILE. “… a sharply realised script, and beautiful direction of John Tatoulis… fresh, funny, poignant work, which delivers the goods through and through. Lakis Lazopoulos, who also worked on the script, gives a sublime performance as the varied twins, and is matched by some wonderfully luminous work by Zoe Carides… and a fine supporting cast of Greeks and Aussies… a total delight, a warm, intelligent and witty gem.” – Paul Fischer.
