Director Michael Apted has brought Robert Harris’ best-selling novel to the screen with a faithful recreation of an era in which to tell an intriguing true story. The former top-secret Bletchley Park is where the code-breakers gathered during World War II; mathematics whizzes, crossword masters, and linguists worked frantically to unravel the messages which contained the future of world peace. And then there’s the beautiful and mysterious Claire (Saffron Burrows)... Is there a spy in their midst? Oscar-winning Tom Stoppard, renowned British playwright, has created an enthralling script. The film is the first from Mick Jagger’s new production company, produced with a determination to establish quality film-making. ENIGMA is a ripping yarn, flawlessly acted... especially by Jeremy Northam and Kate Winslett who are superb.
