|
In a sunny Sicilian coastal village, Grazia (Valeria Golino) is wife to a fisherman and a mother of three… and a free spirit whose thinking and behaviour outside the ordered lifestyle of local traditions becomes an embarrassment to her family. Grazia is eventually believed by others to have had some form of mental breakdown and her elder son, 13-year-old Pasquale, hides her away in cave by the sparkling waters. RESPIRO becomes a story of love in its various forms within the family, as the boy finds a way to protect the touching bond he shares with his mother. RESPIRO swept the critics’ awards at Cannes and won the votes of the audience. “ I was seduced by this film.” - Margaret Pomeranz, SBS MOVIE SHOW. “Utterly charming and thoroughly seductive… you would have to be crazy to miss this…” – XPRESS.
