An epic and rewarding romance that simply belongs on the BIG screen. The south of England and the coast of Cornwall provide the spectacular settings (magnificently photographed in Panavision) for Joseph Conrad’s classic tale reflecting in the hero some of his own experiences and fears as an immigrant when arriving as a stranger in England towards the turn of the last century. Amy Foster (Rachel Weisz) is a withdrawn pagan spirit who spends her time collecting from the sea when a a young and passioante adventurer (Vincent Perez), and sole survivor of a shipwrexk, is washed ashore and becomes a stranger in a hostile land. Ian McKellen, Joss Ackland, Kathy Bates, Tom Bell and Zoe Wanamaker co-star. Direction is by Beeban Kidron.
