| THE STATION AGENT |
 |
|
At last!… THE STATION AGENT arrives for Newcastle audiences to take to heart. Fin (Peter Dinklage) is small of stature and has become a joke to others, and as a result is introverted and very serious about his obsession with trains… especially small ones. Fin’s best friend is the owner of a model train shop where he works. Unexpectedly, when his employer suddenly dies, Fin finds his own life has run off the rails… he finds he has no job, and is now the owner of a run-down and deserted train station in a small community. Fin moves in, and soon his nosey neighbours become part of a new life for the resident station agent. First-time director Thomas McCarthy also wrote this charming feature, so full of hilarity and poignancy that it won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and so finely crafted that he walked away with critics’ accolades as well. Patricia Clarkson, Bobby Cannavale and Michelle Williams co-star. “*****” – David Stratton.
